INFLUENCE OF ALBUMIN ON GUAVA PULP POWDER OBTAINED BY FOAM-MAT DRYING REA
Maciel,Roberta M. G.; Afonso,Marcos R. A.; da Costa,José M. C.; Araújo,Tayla M. R..
ABSTRACT Guava is a fruit that stands out for its aroma, intense flavor, vitamins, and minerals. Its availability as a powdered food enhances its commercial applications. This study aimed to evaluate mathematical models for adsorption isotherms and determine the properties and flowability of guava pulp powder obtained by foam-mat drying. The models of GAB, BET, Henderson and Oswin were fitted to determine the isotherms of powders with 4 and 8% albumin, at temperatures of 35°C and 45°C. The powders were evaluated by wall friction angle, flow index, apparent density, and particle microstructure analysis. The best fit to the isotherms was obtained by the GAB model. Wall friction angle ranged from 15.7 to 21.9° and from 13.6 to 20.4° for samples containing 4...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization and compatibility among genotypes to select elite clones of cupuassu Acta Amazonica
ALVES,Rafael Moysés; SILVA,Carlos Rogério de Sousa; ALBUQUERQUE,Paulo Sérgio Bevilaqua de; SANTOS,Vinicius Silva dos.
ABSTRACT The expansion of the genetic base of cultivated materials is an ongoing activity of the cupuassu (Theobroma grandiflorum) breeding program. However, the parents involved need to be genotypically and phenotypically characterized to ensure compatibility of crossings, as well as to assist in the selection of more promising individuals for hybridization. This study aimed to identify and select T. grandiflorum clones that are compatible and genetically divergent using tools such as the estimates of genotypic, phenotypic, and combined distances, as well as the compatibility rates among clones. The genetic distance analysis of the clones was performed with 14 heterologous microsatellite primers of cocoa (Theobroma cacao) that amplify the DNA of cupuassu....

Postharvest changes and respiratory pattern of bacuri fruit (Platonia insignis Mart.) at different maturity stages during ambient storage Acta Amazonica
Teixeira,Gustavo Henrique de Almeida; Durigan,José Fernando; Lima,Maria Aparecida; Alves,Ricardo Elesbão; Filgueiras,Heloísa Almeida Cunha.
Bacuri (Platonia insignis, Mart.) is one of the most important among Amazonian fruits. However, little is known about its postharvest physiology, such as maturity stages, changes during ambient storage, and respiratory pattern. Fruits were harvested at three maturity stages based on epicarp colour: dark green, light green, and turning (50% yellow), in order to determine colour modification and respiratory pattern during ambient storage (25.2 ºC, 75.1 % RH). Fruit of all maturity stages showed, after three days of harvest, a non-climacteric respiratory pattern, with turning fruit presenting the highest CO2 production rate until the fourth storage day (177.63 mg.CO2.kg-1.h-1). Yellowing increased throughout storage as related to lightness, chromaticity, and...

Postharvest R & D concerning tropical fruits AgEcon
Chudleigh, Peter D..
An economic evaluation of two Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) projects in the area of postharvest technology for tropical fruits was undertaken. This evaluation considered a 30 year time period from the first year of investment and assumed a discount rate of 5 per cent. The estimate of the net present value of the research and development investment was $93 million expressed in 1996/97 terms. The benefit–cost ratio was 38:1 and the internal rate of return estimated at 64 per cent. If benefits realised by 1996/97 were considered, the net present value was $30 million, the benefit–cost ratio was 13:1, and the internal rate of return was 63 per cent. Benefits accrued to both Thailand and Australia, with the proportion of...

Sensory acceptance of mixed nectar of papaya, passion fruit and acerola Scientia Agricola
Matsuura,Fernando César Akira Urbano; Folegatti,Marília Ieda da Silveira; Cardoso,Ricardo Luís; Ferreira,Daniel Costa.
Nectars are beverages formulated with the juice or pulp of one or more fruits, plus water and sugar in concentrations resulting in a "ready-to-drink" product. Recently, the market for such products has greatly expanded. Fruit mixtures present a series of advantages, such as the combination of different aromas and flavors and the sum of their nutritional components. The objective of this work was to develop a nectar based on papaya pulp and passion fruit juice, enriched with the vitamin C present in acerola pulp, optimizing the formulation using sensory consumer tests and a response surface statistical methodology. Eleven formulations were prepared using different concentrations of papaya pulp and passion fruit juice and sucrose, and maintaining the...

Tolerance to water deficit in young trees of jackfruit and sugar apple Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Rodrigues,Bruno Monteiro; Souza,Bruna Dias; Nogueira,Rejane Mansur; Santos,Mauro Guida.
The predawn leaf water potential (Ψl), stomatal conductance (g s), CO2 assimilation (A), transpiration (E), chlorophyll a fluorescence and leaf metabolite contents (soluble sugars, proteins and free amino acids) of two tropical fruit species grown in a greenhouse were evaluated to determine the effect of induced water stress on young plants. Six month-old jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) and sugar apple (Annona squamosa L.) plants were evaluated in 10.0 L pots after eight days of water withholding, imposed by suspension of irrigation. Jackfruit water status was better than sugar apple. Sugar apple plants showed different daily stomatal behavior when well hydrated, compared to jackfruit plants under the same conditions. The gas exchange of both...
